The main grape varieties grown in Mendoza are: Malbec, Cavernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin, Ugni Blanc, Semillón, Barbera and Riesling. There are grapes for table wines too. In addition, grapes for raisins and must are produced and exported. Mount Aconcagua

Aconcagua Park is located in Mendoza, 180 Km west from the capital city. It has the highest peak in the American continent: Mount Aconcagua with 6962 m. In 1983 this mount was declared protected natural area. This park has big glaciers, which are an excellent hydroelectric complex. There are important archaeological formations as well. The routes to get to the base of the mount are Rio Horcones and Rio Vacas. The main campsites are located just there: Plaza de Mulas and Plaza Argentina.

Many international guides, who have already climbed the Himalayas, come to the park every year. They say that the physical and psychological effort of climbing Mount Aconcagua is as hard as that of climbing a mount of 8000 m. This is a result of the hostile climate conditions in the Central Andes. There is little humidity in the mount and the amount of oxygen lowers for the same reason. Winds produce low atmosphere pressure and together with the isolation of the place, they make this activity extremely difficult, even for the most experienced climbers. This challenge attracts thousands of mountaineers who come to Mendoza willing to climb mount Aconcagua.
